Default jumping the gun?

had quite a productive day today, have planted my potatoes out managed to get twenty in each row so have only done three rows, planted out my cauliflour seedlings under cloches and a row of cauliflour seeds also under cloches, have done three rows of carrots and three rows of parsnips.
i have two old boys living next door to me both of whom were stood at the fence for most of the day tutting and shaking thier heads muttering the likes of "too early boy" i do some what object to being called boy at 42 but i suppose compared to them i am "the frost'l get em" was another one i got, oh well if it does then i have learnt a lesson

only problem i did come across is i am using home made cloches and as i have no wire supports im using tyres dug into the ground to make the loop, any one know where i can get propper cloch wire from?

thanks Tony

Tony, if you don`t try, you`ll never know. One thing I would say though, is block off the ends of the cloches, no poimt in inviting trouble. Have a look in your local Wilkos for wire cloche hoops, or maybe Focus, B&Q or Homebase.

Hi Tony, the last estimated frost date for Nottinghamshire is early May. If you can buy some fleece you will be able to cover over the potato foliage if a frost is forecast.

I use plastic pipe and bend it over onto canes. Won't it be great when someone comes up with a self inflating cloche like a lilo bed but bendable. That double wall thickness would keep the cold out, you could then deflate and put away for next year.

I guess you won't know until you try. There is always a certain amount of trial and error isn't there!
