Default Link a board raised beds

Hi Everyone

I have just purchased two 1mx1m linkaboard raised beds for my garden (using for veg obviously). I was going to put this on top of the chipped stone section that I have in front of my wee greenhouse (6x4) however I have a couple of questions:

1) do I put some sort of membrane down on the stones and place the raised bed on top of this or do I just put the soil down?

2) what should I fill the bed with? I have read varying options and just wondered what the best would be, top soil or multi-purpose compost?....I spotted bags of top soil from b&q.....

All advise is much appreciated, I dont I know what veg I am going to put in the bed however I have sown from seed so far beetroot and spring onions and carrots. I also got a chilli set from my hubby and these have started to germinate. The greenhouse is being kept for my tomatoes and cucumbers so its all go!

Thanks
Marisia

Iv just put some raised bedding in myself, mine is over soil so cant really help with what to put underneath, but i used a mix of topsoil and compost for mine probs about 50/50. whatever you do make sure you don't just use compost it will be too light/thin if that makes sense lol

I'd scrape away the gravel first or carrots and parsnips will fork off into odd shapes when they hit the stones, and then put the bed down and dig the soil inside to make sure it's stone free. I filled mine with manure, compost, and sand, and then dug it all together.

We're just putting in our raised bed, I know it's a little late but hey. I've been advised as you've suggested to go with 50/50 topsoil and compost.

I've found a local stables with mature manure so am just tracking down topsoil. I've been offered this:

PAS100 10mm down compost for £20 per tonne

This isn't what I'm after right?! Am really struggling with finding affordable topsoil. Cheapest I've found is £50 for 1 tonne and guess this is going to be enough when mixed with my manure.

All help gratefully received!
