Default Black Russian Tomatoes Anyone?

I first tried growing these last year, had maybe 8 large fruits on a couple of plants, they were just about ready and the dog ate them (actually, he ate most things from the garden last year, except for the root vegges).

Am trying them again this year, anyone tried them? Good flavour?

Sadly, our pooch is now in the great kennel in the sky (unrelated to the tomato incident) so we're expecting greater yields this season and .

I keep looking at them and have heard chef's saying how wonderful they taste but I am a bit concerned what the kids and the wife will say when I put it on a salad.

Hi Ginger. Can't say that I've tried that variety but I hear they're very good. Please keep us posted on how they turn out. I have planted Black Prince and Cherokee Purple and they were great. And Smeagal, don't worry too much about what the family thinks, once they try them I'd bet they'll be sold. My Mom isn't much of a tomatoe fan but she's gotten to enjoy the heirlooms I plant, except for the Aunt Ruby's German Green. There's just something a little stange about eating a green tomatoe even if it is ripe. Maybe try a Brandywine and CP to start and work in the different colors over time.

I grew these a couple of years ago and really liked them. If you really want to freak your family out then try Green Zebra, they're my favourite.

I'm growing green grape toms as well as others, but I like the idea of toms that look like grapes
