Default New Veg Patch

Hi all,
Have decided to give up a small patch of my garden to growing veg this year. The quality of the soil is not very good, how do i go about improving the quality of the soil. What are the best types of fertilizer to use.is the likes of Chicken manure any good or do i need something stronger.

You say your soil isn`t very good, why? What is actually wrong with it?

Natural Fertilizers are best for your garden like Grass Clippings/Mulch, Animal Manure, Wood Ash & Coffee Grinds/Cold Coffee, Seaweed, Compost/ Vermicompost

Chicken manure is great, but let it decompose in the soil for a week and give it a good dig over before planting.

When i have grown Daffs for example the second year the is only foliage but no flower, i asume this is due to poor soil, thanks for the tips on chicken manure but is this enough on it's own ?

Did you plant your daffs deep enough?

The daffs are probably planted TOO deep. You can`t judge your soil by a few daffodil bulbs tezmac. Give us more info. We CAN help you.

When i have grown anything is seems stunted, as though the is not enough goodness in the ground. I have lived in my present house for the last 10 years and have had a passing intrest in the garden, but now i have more time and have been enjoing my time in the garden. I have never put anything nutritious on the garden and assume it now needs this. Your help please

For now, feed everything with Fish,Blood and Bone Meal. During the autumn/winter get as much humus as you can into the soil, things such as well rotted manure and/or garden compost.
