Default Wood chip

im thinking about putting wood chip down in about the back 5th of my garden. got a few things growing there now and its looks a bit silly having lots of areas of grass missing.
Thinking of taking all the lawn up in that area and putting wood chip down, will weeds and stuff still grow through this? will i need to put something down underneath and if i do what do i do about the things i have planted there? just cut gaps in it? Will this stop things from growing properly or will they be ok?
Any advice pweese

I think you have answered your questions Pacey. I put wood bark down & weeds still grew through it so I would imagine you would have to put something down. I was not bothered about anything growing through so I used old carpet I had over.

I put wood chips around some wild roses - they're in a wee bed in the lawn but without a 'physical' border - it's just bed then the dug edge then grass.
Anyway, something keeps ferreting around and digging out all the wood chips and sprinkling them over the lawn - we thought it was hedgehogs snuffling about, but it's being going on over the winter too, so it's probably birds rooting for stuff.

It's a fascinating story, I know, *takes bow* but the point I'm getting to in a slow and roundabout way is if you want a tidy edge between chips/lawn then put a wooden barrier or something down. I haven't, but then am happy enough to just keep sweeping them back in.

There. I've said it.
