Oh wow! Those pumpkins are great! Like with everything, I didnt expect them to grow at all so I guess foolishly I thought there was enough space there!

The snails have been nibbling some of the leaves - I caught a few this morning!

Thanks so much for your help everyone, I will just let them grow - if Pete (the one that is crawling across the patio) keeps going in a straight-ish line he has a good 6ft of patio! I just hope my dogs don't stand on him!

Having trouble with my pumpkin i only have one plant left its been in my garden a few month now and has settled in ok but it had lots and lots of male flowers and totally stopped growing while producing these and actually started to loose alot of colour from its leaves it then stopped producing flowers and grew a few new healthy leaves none of which have got bigger than 2 inch the whole plant is still pretty small maybe 1.5ft long and .5 wide now its only producing female flowers but without a male to pollinate the baby pumpkins have both fell off. My ickle babys having no luck are they lol

My pumpkins were like that to begin with Pacey - first flower was a female - no males to pollinate then a few male flowers and no females, then a female and two males so I hand pollinated and something ate it after about 2 weeks

Somebody told me that it is possible to freeze the male stamens and use them to hand pollinate the female flowers when they appear. I have no idea if this is true though

Does anyone know if I should dead head the pumpkin flowers when they've finished? Does that encourage more flowers?

Following advice from my grandad and you all, I have pinched out some of the other smaller pumpkins and concentrated on two big boys!

This was taken last week. Both are on the patio so not on soil but I am still worried they will rot or something. Should I be doing anything to prevent rot or damage etc? I want these all ready for Halloween!

The pumpkins are turning orange now! Does anyone know when I should pick them and how to store them?

Leave the fruit to mature and harden off into October. Winter squash only develop their full sweetness and taste when allowed to mature and harden off. When the foliage starts to die down, cut off the fruits leaving if possible, at least 5 cm stem attached, to help to prevent early rotting of the fruit. Leave the cut fruits to fully dry off in a sunny dry place, such as a greenhouse, cold frame or sunny windowsill for two weeks.
