I thought id start a thread where we all share what varieties we are growing and what we think of them and why. I figured its a good place to come when your trying to decide what variety to grow and what to avoid
![]() Heres my start... I recommend... Cucumber Marketmore - I grew these so easily and they are fruiting now, all id say is keep on top of tying them up as i left mine a little to long and now with the wind i cant train them up anymore. Nice outside cucumber tho. Courgette Black Beauty - These were a roaring sucess at the begining and really easy to grow outdoors no fuss. Make sure if ur pot growing the pot is really big though and loads of space for air circulation. Spring Onion White Lisbon - Really good, just stick them in the pot and do nothing. Great. Beetroot Boltardy - Again so easy to grow. Runner Bean Scarlet emperor - I did struggle with germination at first but now i have a nice crop. Net them over though its a must. Id avoid... Onion Rijnsburger - I had so few germinate and only three now growing and i dont think ill get a decent onion. (maybe better from set) Sweet Pepper Californian Wonder - What ever i do with these is wrong, i just cant get them to grow. I will actually try again next year tho. Cauliflower All Year Rounder - only gave me small heads which then went mouldy before they even bolted. Gutted!! Broccoli Green Calabrese - for the space they take up the crop is so small. |
