Default What's your most memorable harvest?

Hi again everyone,

I'd be curious to hear about all your most memorable harvest(s)!

I was reflecting on my first year's results so far, and I realise I have no idea of what was a reasonable yield should be for the most common kitchen plants. I know it will greatly depend on the soil type, the sun exposure, the weather of course, but still there must be most sort of 'benchmark'? and 'record highs'?
Thats what I'd find great to hear about :-)

I should probably give an example:

Last year my grand parents had 45 kg of white peaches from a single small tree (about 1m60 high but I'm not sure how old; 4-5 years I think). It was probably more than the weight of the tree and much more spectacular than any year before, so that was quite memorable!

(on the other hand, the apricot tree gave just 3 fruits that's memorable but at the other end of the spectrum!!)

I got a lovely crop of beetroot this year. The best ever. Have attached picture of some carrots and beetroot we pulled on Saturday.

Very nice!! Thanks for 'sharing your harvest'!

Does anyone know if a container-raised plant can compete with one raised in soil in terms of harvest (assuming both are grown in the best possible conditions)?...Just curious!

Hi Tom, I guess that this would be down to the size of the container. A really huge container with a good width and depth shouldn't restict the roots. But generally a smaller harvest is expected from container grown veggies.

Hi Tom, I've had some great harvests, but one year we lost a load of gooseberries from one bush so only expected a small crop. I got a real surprise though - we harvested 9 lb 7 oz or 4.28 kilos of gooseberries from that one bush - which was an awful lot of jam to make!!

Your harvest looks like a bigger and better version of a picture I put on here! Well done!

Yes thanks for the nice pictures all

Well this year being my first harvest it's certainly going to be a memory too. A good or bad one I don't know yet! I've got a few tomato trusses that takes aaaages to ripen; I hope nothing nasty will happen before they do!

They look really healthy, I wouldn't worry.
