Alot depends on the weather. I had alot of green ones too and in the past week we've had some really warm temps and they've started to change and ripen fairly fast. I know it's hard to be patient but sometimes that's what it takes. Your toms will come along and before you know it you'll be knee deep in a great harvest. Good luck Shaun.

What your toms need is a dose of Ethylene. Its a natural gas that ripens up most fruit. Where do you get it? From bananas!

I saw an experiment on TV once where they put fruit on 4 different glss containers with different things to help them ripen. The one with bananas in easily ripened the fruit first.

Here are some wise words all about this:

Hi Shaun, patience!! Your tomatoes will ripen and you get far more flavour in the tomatoes if you let them ripen properly on the plant. Don't be tempted to pick them orange - wait until the tomatoes are really red before you pick them and they will taste absolutely gorgeous!!

Hi Shaun, there is absolutely nothing wrong with them at all. We have had pretty miserable weather which won't help with ripening. (At least the weather has been miserable where we live.)

Ours are exactly the same Shaun, loads of green ones and very few red ones, in fact, only 3 have actually turned red so far... BUT there are a lot that are just starting to get a hint of orangeiness, so it won't be long now! Yay!

Mine are the same too. I was very impatient with them to even get the fruit and now I'm finding I'm still as impatient for it to turn red!

Default greenback

Hi

Mine too have not started to go red yet, in addition, one variety has greenback - where there is a dark green part around the stalk end. I'm hoping they too will go red once we get some decent weather. Does anyone know if there's anything I should do with the greenback ones?

Hi Mikey & Annie,
I will quote the text from 1 of my books, about your problem

Greenback: Area around the stalkremains hard, green & unripe. The cause is too much sunlight or too little potash,(food)
Treatment: None

Prevention: Apply Coolglass, control heat of greenhouse. Feed regulaly with Tomato feed.
There are also varieties available, that are resistant to this problem

Hope the above is of some use??? cheers stupo

See.... your not alone Shaun.

I have Gardeners' Delight and Supersweet in very large pots and they are just beginning to turn red. Huge clusters of green ones still though and the plants do look healthy.

So Tomorite as usual and some patience and sunshine.
