Default Garden / Allotment update :)

Hi all,

Just been up the allotment and thought it was time I gave you all the new info on what's been going on

The BIG news is the corn - two of the plants up the allotment are now showing their first signs of being ready to throw out some food - there's the start of some seeds / silk stuff in the middle of the plants now which I know leads to cobs forming so happy!!

The runner bean plants in the garden are now starting to flower, I've got around 10 good big flowers showing across 3 of the 5 plants - they're starting off white and then turning orange but they're still VERY delicate and I've managed to snap off two flowers by mistake - still loads to come through though!

Peas, Peas, PEAS - I've got loads ready now and another 30 or so plants still developing - it's going to be an awesome year for peas

Peppers are starting to show some signs of developing on 2 of the 3 plants, tiny little things that seem to be about to flower - should really look up their development stages... Anyhow, I remain optimistic of a good pepper yield this year!

The Savoy cabbages (back at the allotment) are flying along - should have at least 15 good heads of cabbage from the one raised bed this year.

Unfortunately, the broccoli seems to be going wrong - I'm getting long stems and loads of yellow flowers coming up I'm going to leave it and see but pessimistic about my chances with those... Ho Hum!

Butternut Squash - 5 plants, all with flowers waiting to burst their buds, if I get 10 squash out of these plants I'll be over the moon!!

And that's how we stand as of today, I seem to have misplaced my camera so no piccies I'm afraid, I'll whack some up when I find it...

Happy growing all, from one VERY happy grower!

Hi Tom, that sounds like a great start to your veggie harvest!! Cut the broccoli heads off that have flowered and more broccoli spears should regrow.

Beans popping up in the home garden and flying up the poles on the allotment along with all the corn plants at home in containers catching up to the big 'uns up the allotment

Lookinf forward to seeing for myself on Sunday - the past weeks' rain has helped a lot it seems...

Just back from the hols today and so pleased with the progress on the allotment and in the gsarden!

Big list time...
  • Beans are in evidence on all the plants at home - that's around 15 plants
  • All the pea plants have at least one pod (c.6 plants)
  • Three peppers showing on two plants
  • Chilles-a-rama across 6 plants!
  • Plum tomatoes have grown massive
  • Hundreds of cherry tomatoes on 3 plants
  • Big toms turning red
Allotment progress...
  • Three Butternut Squash in evidence across 6 plants
  • Two cobs on two sweetcorn plants
  • Four MASSIVE beetroots harvested
  • Savoy cabbages are all ready to be harvested... Roast dinner tomorrow
  • Beans popped up on all 8 plants on the allotment
  • One spud plant has died but all of the other 7 are thriving
  • Broccoli is a gonner I'm afraid... Better luck next year on that front

And that's the update Looking forward to tucking into some nice fresh veggies VERY soon now!!
