Hi Everyone
I'm new here and very green around the gills - unfortunately not too green around the fingers yet but I'm hoping that will come in time :-) I've recently started growing my own veg....I've had some success with my own herbaceous borders and decided to branch out into fruit and veg. I've had a nice crop of courgettes, loads of herbs and a lovely crop of blackberries and gooseberries so far. I've got about 1/3 of an acre in my garden so I've got the room and have been clearing a very ignored area up so I can extend my fruit and veg crops.....anyhoo.... my question is this..... In my new area I've been weeding and hoe-ing in preparation for a few late Summer crops but have found a pretty climbing 'thing'. My Mum (My usual source of information) isn't sure whether it's a weed so I thought I'd put it to you all?!! It is a lovely healthy plant but I'd hate to be nurturing a weed!! It has little bobbly 'seeds' or 'fruits' on it and is a climber. I should also mention that the patch I'm clearing was in a previous life a veg-patch for the last owner of the house and I've found a couple of lovely things in there buried deep within the nettles like a gorgeous marjoram plant and a bunch of chives so this is why I'm unsure whether this climber may be a plant or an edible source!! Can anyone help a novice??? |

Thanks for all the advice guys!!! I'm not sure I'd dare have a taste Matt!!!! Lol....shall I keep it going and see how it goes? The more I look at it the more I'm convinced that it maybe a 'weed' or perhaps at leats soemthing I don't want in my patch!! It's so rampant and dominant that I'm a bit wary :-)

No idea what it is, looks like a member of the cucumber family, but if its rampant and will take over and you don't want it, pull it out. If it turns out that it IS something useful, then if it's rampant it'll grow back.
If in doubt, leave it out Nix

I would say that the plant is White Bryony. Please for your own safety do not taste or eat any plant that you can't identify and if you have children around may be best to get rid of it.
