Default french Beans

My french beans have all but finished now. I've had a loads of beans, some of which have been lightly blanched and frozen.

Has anyone sown Ist week of August and had a decent crop before the frosts set in ?

I live on the south coast of England and i've never had beans stop so early in the season before. It has been dry, and although watered, the ground really does need a good soak with rainwater. Maybe tonight, we are forecast showers !!

Hi FTCN, if you have spare seeds then you could give it a try as the recommended sowing time is up to mid July so you are only a couple of weeks late and as you live on the south coast the weather should be good.

We put some in a spare bed about 3 weeks ago, they are up and growing ok, but not sure if we'll get a crop or not, but we are a lot further north than you, so only time will tell!

If you got the seeds, I'd go for it, after all, only 2 possible outcomes, so you've a 50/50 chance of a crop!

Thanks to both of you.

I'll see if I can get some more seeds today. Let you know the results as the weather is warm and they should get away quickly.

Love your blogspot Suzanne; the plots look fantastic...well done.

Terry

Lol, thanks Terry, it sort of grew out of a thread in a forum, where we were asking advice of folks, n grew into a blog of sorts! I like the fact that I can look back and see what was where, how well it did and what we were doing (and harvesting) at each point in the year!

It doesnt look too bad, tho since the hosepipe ban all its done is rain, so we do have a few too many weed seedlings atm, difficult to keep on top of them when you work full time and have to hand weed (cos its too wet to hoe), but hopefully we'll be on top of them soon!
