I planted some leeks out early this year and they have done nothing but sit and sulk!! The bed was a new raised bed filled with a mix of topsoil and garden centre bagged manure. The leeks were bought as very very small plants from the garden centre and then put into the bed about a hands width between each. They are now the size of a thick pencil. Some are brown and sad looking whilst some are flowering. I've pulled the flowering ones and a couple of others to check the roots- nothing wrong. But they have all formed a bulb?
Any ideas? Think I am going to scrap leeks! Edited to say that they are watered regularly and are in full sun. |

Hi Nicki, leeks don't like freshly manured ground but that doesn't stop them growing, the leeks would be tough with plenty of leaf growth. Your leeks certainly don't sound very good - I would dump the brown ones and the ones that flowered as these will not have any leek left inside. So maybe transplant the remaining leeks into a container of compost and see if they grow??
