Default Growing next to a conifer hedge??

Ok so I know this is probably a stupid question but we have a conifer hedge on one side of our garden growing next to a raised flower bed which runs the length of the hedge. I'm trying to get as much out of the garden as possible without converting the whole thing to a veg patch so wondered whether there are any veggies that would grow ok in the shade?

veg needs sunlight to produce the growth and sugars in the plants we like to eat shade also cools the plants i am not aware of any plants that will do well in this situation .
this hedge will leach all the nutrients and water from the soil i may risk a few beettrootbut thats about all

at the end of the day it depends how shady the area is...does it get direct light for part of the day?

also it would be worth adding some lime to the area because pine niddles are pretty acidic

plants do need good soil, good drainage there are some plants /veggies however that can do with few hours of sunlight if you are getting about 4 to 6 hrs then you can consider growing Lettuce mustard greens, parsley, radiccio etc you need to remember that this leaf veggies will have thinner leaves compare to those grown in full sun
