It depends what you like Shaun! Most things can be grown in tubs as long as you put the right care into looking after them. Some composts doesn't tend to hold water as well as soil, so watering is essential!

If the tub is deep enough, anything can be possible! As long as you give your crops the right balance of water, nutrients, sunlight and warth they'll be fine

Things like aubergines, some beans, some brassicas, early carrots, chillies, garlic, peppers, shallots and tomatoes (for greenhouse use) can be sown now. Everything else can be soon in around march to april when the weather starts to warm up a bit

By plastic do you mean the little pole/polythene ones? Or do you mean full size, plastic windows?

Is this waht you mean?

If so, they are ok.. but nowhere near as good as a proper greenhouse! They're ideal if you have limited space and want to get some good chillies or peppers! I've used them in the past and had some good results!

The downside is they don't fair well in heavy winds! And also don't like cold winters!

Start chillies now! But it's best to start chillies off indoors where it's warmer! They like a lot of warmth when they are germinating! Then move them out into there when they are big enough, probably around mid-March.

Yes, this would be a good idea! If you've got an air cupboard or a boiler that would be even better! Let the heating do the proagting for you

Im in the same boat at home, i have a large patio area but want to grow at home as well as at the lotty. So last year i grew onions, peppers, chillies, beetroot and tomatoes in containers, with carrots in buckets. They all grew really well and i plan on expanding this year!
