Question Tall cabbages

I overwintered some Kilaxy cabbages in a cold frame and planted em out to harvest as spring/early summer cabbages. They are rather tall - over one foot high and show no signs of hearting up. Last year some golden acre cabbages that did heart up grew to a similar height. Any ideas?

1 ft is not tall for cabbages! 2 ft is common on my cabbages when full grown.

Thanks for those helpful responses, but just looked and it appears the ones in now have gone to seed, with small flowers appearing at the top. Does anyone know if we can still harvest the leaves at this stage to eat as spring greens, or will they taste bitter?

Have eaten the leaves as spring greens. They tasted fine. We left the stumps in the ground to see if any small cabbages would grow. We understand that others cut a cross to get four baby cabbages but thought we'd prefer to get one per stem. Does anyone know which is best, cross or not?
