Default Maris Peer chitting

I have been chitting some Maris Peer (not piper) seed potatos for around a month now on a cool bright window cill. The sprouts are a dark green but are tiny... With previous types Of seed potato the sprouts have grown quite tall.

Would these be ok to put out with such a small growth? I am conscious they are second early, but even the lightest covering of compost would probably cover the sprouts.

Cheers

Smile

I put my "Home Guard" first earlies out 2 weeks ago to-morrow as they were like yours and very slow to Chit and a few of them are coming out of the ground already.
I would say you will be OK to plant out.

Regards Hammer

I put some maris peers and some pentland javelins in patio bags a few weeks ago, one type had really long sprouts and the other had similar to what you describe, now I had used to the top of the pack to 'label' them while they were chitting and so thought it was the maris peer with long shoots, anyway both have come up above the soil a few times now and I've recovered them and they have come back up. The ones that I thought were the maris peers now have loads of green leaves on and the other ones are still shoots with just tiny leaves on so I guess I could have got them the wrong way round! anyway I'd put them in if I were you
