We have a trellis fence which is all wood, the posts being concreted into the ground. We erected it three years ago and had to replace a post last December, even though the posts are tanalised - i.e. pressure-treated. We would like to find a suitable chemical that can be applied to the underground part of each post that would drive any water out and seal the post to make it last as long as possible. Could anyone recommend a suitable product?

Creosote was withdrawn from sale several years ago.

Im not sure how deep your posts are but ive had a job similar to this in the past with a chicken pen. The legs went deep to stop the foxes digging under. The posts had been in about 5 years and the owner wanted them protecting. If you can get to them, dig around to expose the base (do this on a dry day) and then paint with a creosote alternative. Ronsons do a really good product for doors, try that. Just be sure its quick drying and done before you bury it back in!
