Default The garden / allotment so far...

Hi all,

Well I finally got round to taking some photos of the garden and up the allotment this weekend so here we go!

Starting with the garden:

I've finally got everything planted out from this cold frame so thought I'd turn it over to a growbag and three tomato plants!

Here's the other cold frame, chock-a-block with seedlings and stuff to be planted out pretty soon. In this picture are onions and spring onions (now moved to the allotment), cantaloupe melons, three cucumbers, leeks (also planted out now), mixed salad leaves, spinach, peppers, chillies and marigolds.

One of my stringless runner beans.

Carrots in the background and my three Cheyenne chilli plants in the foreground (I cheated with the chillies - bought them from Tescos)

Another couple of pots of carrots, one of the chillies / pepper plants I've grown from seed and a trough of leeks on the left.

Seven of my nine bags of spuds. I have a mixture of king edwards, saxon and Jamie Oliver's purpleish potatoes from Homebase.

Another view of some carrots in containers.

Sugar snap peas in hanging baskets - why waste them with flowers I say...!

22 by tommyq1976, on Flickr

A trough full of peas and another with peas and horseradish.

Carrots again - I've planted these four pots in two week intervals so I should have a good continuous supply when they start being ready to harvest.

My new raised bed! I turned an old wooden bedstead into a raised bed in the garden (much to the horror of my other half) and planted out all 13 cabbages, a mystery squash/courgette/marrow/pumpkin plant (I really must start labelling the seeds I plant!) and popped in some more marigolds for those friendly bees!

The one and only hanging basket I've dedicated to flowers - there are three marigolds in here. Please, no comments on the basket full of dead chives nextdoor.

The compost heap! I've found that a great way to keep slugs away from the good stuff is to have some old bananas nearby - the slugs love them and ignore the stuff I don't want them near I had some spare spuds knocking about so I put them into some old compost I'd tipped out of last year's containers next to the compost heap - they seem to be doing fine so far.

Rhubarb (still to come up) on the left and two pots of runner beans.

Onto the allotment:

Here's the overview of the whole allotment - I have up to the bed frame on its side behind all the greenery at the back. There are 5 raised beds up and running and a sixth to be filled after the weekend. In the extreme foreground are all the raspberries, I've got some peas just behind them and a couple of artichokes just to the left of the photo.

The first of the raised beds, I've got runner beans along the back with some little gem lettuce nestling in the spaces between struts, then, from left to right, we have; French radish (actually bought in France and incredibly hot! Can't recommend them enough...), a lot of dwarf green beans - think I put in around 17 plants... We'll wait and see how many come up, spinach and beetroot come next and finally I've got some more peas and kohl rabi on the far right. I'm not to sure about the kohl rabi, the seeds came free with a gardening magazine so I thought I'd give them a go.

Composters, the shed and a lotta lotta sunflowers.

Here's another of the raised beds with butternut squash along the top, red onions along the right, onions I've grown from seed at the front, spring onions along the far left and 4 sprout plants just to the right of them.

A close up of one of my runner beans.

A couple of the little gems coming along nicely.

Sunflower corner again, they're all coming along a treat.

All my strawberries (from last year no less) safely tucked away under some chicken wire.

And finally a close up of the strawbs, loads of flowers already so I'm expecting many strawberries pretty soon!

And that's that - I'll get another load up when I next get round to it!

Hi tommyq, nice to see some photos of all your hard work
It all looks rather fantastic!
Have you grown sugar snap peas in hanging baskets before? I haven't seen this idea before but am tempted to give it a try... I haven't even planted my seeds yet!

I've not tried it before but thought I would use up the space - they're quickly out-growing the baskets but they're seemingly healthy still. I'm a bit of a try-it-and-see kind of gardener
