Default My First cuccumber of the Year

Hi all

Thought I would dazzle everyone with a pic of me first cuccumber of the year. I've got 3 F1 plant in a grow bag with over 20 flowers on. My Italian cuccumbers are way behind the F1 ones though

Hope everyone is happy and has dirty finger nails!

Kind regards

Paul

wow, I am so jealous. I don't have a greenhouse - yet. Reminds me of the last place we lived we had a polly-tunnel and loads of tomatoes and cucumbers. Even the dog enoyed eating them.

Is your greenhouse heated?

Well done Paul. I planted my seeds outside 9 days ago and they've sprouted very well but it will be a while before I get cucs like yours.

Hi Vegtable - Gardener

No its not a heated GH, however to be honest its not a green house at all. My cuccumbers are in the swiming pool room against the walls which are plastic. Some of the wall space has been renewed so the available light is ok, while others areas have gone murky and opaque with reduced amounts of light The swimming pool is virtually empty apart for the rain water which accumaltes (leaky roof), although that is handy for watering the plants. I will be getting a GH or poly tunnel next year, if we stay in this rented accomodation, but who knows!

Regards

Very impressive - mine are nowhere near that size yet, the plants are standing about 8in tall, tucked away in the coldframe!

That looks a beauty! Do you have many more this size on the same plant?

Hi Paula,

You can buy all female cucumbers - these only produce cucumbers. You can aslo buy just cucumber plants but these have male and female flowers - you need to remove the male flowers because if you don't the female cucumbers turn bitter.

HI GMB27

Sadly I don't due to over watering I think. I've another plant that does have though, and I will post a pic later today. Bascially I have 3 plants in a grow bag and they seem to be going ok. I've had 4 cues already and as you will see when I post me picture later there are another couple which are ready.

Cheers buddy!
