Default Potato foliage cutting back

Because of the hot weather last month my potato plants are about three foot high and I've heard you should cut the foliage back so that more power goes into forming the actual spuds. Any idea hoe and how much I should cut back.
ps Im a beginner at forums. This is my son's 'name'.

only cut the foliage back if the plants are suffering from blight, otherwise just leave them to die back and all the goodness will go into the tatties. just like leaving the foliage on bulbs so that they can die back and put the energy back into the bulb ready for next year.
