Hi all
I have had failry limited success so far with my new vegetable plot. I have a lot of pes, beans, cabbage and broccoli but I planted carrots and sweetcorn and nothin seems to be happening. Should I plant more seeds do you think or do these veg normally take thier time. I alos plants white onions and these are not showing yet either....HELP. I was hoping for a bumper crop but I guess the dry weather hasn't heleped? This will be the first year anythign other than weeds have grown in the soil so could that be making things difficult? Hope you are all having more success. StevieG ![]() |

Hi Stevieg, Would resow sweetcorn and carrots. With regards to the white onion, if you mean white lisbon spring onion I would also resow but sow the seeds 3/4-1" deep. This is deeper than instructed on most seed packets but I picked this tip up from a Marshalls catalogue and we find they do a lot better.

Don't give up. The good news is you have peas, cabbage and broccoli
I had to sow the carrots 3 times and this lot has finally come up. With the carrots I watered them as and when the ground was drying out. With sweetcorn it's usually better to sow indoor in individual pots as the mice will eat them often if you sow them outside. You could try sowing it again - but maybe you are better off to go to the garden centre or carboot sale and see if someone has some plants. It happens to all of us that not everything grows but just keep going ![]()
