Default Building Small Grow Area

I just got some more wood from work, going to build another grow area. It will be about 9'' high do I need to put plastic sheet down again? Am
Putting stones in it for drainage. going to use it just for lettuce will I need compost, just got grade1 top soil at mo spare so using that.

i would not put down any membrane or stones, be cause if you want to grow any thing in future years with a tap root you will hit problems and top soil will be ok this year just add compost etc next year

You will more than likely end up wanting something more than lettuce... don't some lovely courgettes sound nice?!

Also, there isn't much point building a raised bed (i assume this is what the wood is for) for lettuce.. seems like a lot of work for some leaves. But also, what ever floats your boat!!

If you can find where your council buys it's soil from your onto a winner. My friend got 2 tonnes of top soil for dirt cheap from the large wholesalers that provides gardening materials to the council. Also find some cheap horse manure... a lot of stables don't mind you taking it - thats where i got mine from.
