Default im back

hey everyone, i havent been on in around a year so thought id come and see how you are all doing and whats going on in the world of growing vegetables.

i didnt quit growing though i was tempted at times, and this season has been disaster on disaster for me with a few happy moments, i figured id share my season...

I actually started last year and created 4 raised beds to save relying so much on compost in pots
i started early this year with the chillis toms and peppers.. i used the pots that u put straight in the soil. It was a disaster the pots mostly didnt break down so i had to remove most of them which really hurt all the roots so basically i was set back on them by a couple of months

after i recovered from this and had all my onions lettuce beets cabbage carrots etc etc all outside doing well my dogs escaped into the back garden while i was at work, they destroyed pretty much everything, i almost quit there and then

however i tried again.. heres some good news, i saved about half my onions and they are still growing, bigger than any onions i ever saw. I got a decent pea crop and have harvest maybe 3kg of peas. My beans are coming good now and i even saved a couple of french dwarfs and got a meal or two from them. My carrots are doing great and seem to be quite big from the surface (who knows whats underground tho). Today i harvested beets and some small onions and pickled both and ate a meal of potatoes beans onions and cabbage all from the garden

ive also been really annoyed with it all today i have thrown my full crop of brassicas away now, they have been bombarded with caterpillers and greenfly, the greenfly i can cope with the caterpillers are awful, i just cant compete. I picked off maybe 150 today then just gave up and binned what was left. ive still got my sprouts but with them being the only brasica left i guess they will go next.
also all season whenever i harvest a lettuce they are riddled with slugs and greenfly, so much that ive been put off eating them at all.

i guess its a learning curve tho and i cant wait for feb to start again

Maybe your dogs brought fresh nutrients to the surface... ;-)

Impressive - how did you do that? (soil, space, fertilizer, trellis, black magic etc.)
