Default Raised bed.

I have filled my raised bed today with soil from the garden and compost from a green plastic bin in the garden. I still need to fill it about 6 inches more. I cannot take anymore soil from the garden, so was going to buy bags of topsoil from the garden centre. Should I do this or put bags of compost in instead? At the moment it is probably 75% soil and 25% compost. Any advise would be appreciated.

Personally I would recommend a couple of bags of B&Q well rotted manure. I added this to mine last winter and my beans have virtually doubled in yield. Digging it in now should really boost next seasons crop.

We bought a ton of sifted topsoil from a merchant when we built our raised beds & it's been fine. We've since added compost etc over time. One thing I would say though is that if you buy in bulk like this, buy it after a long period of dry weather, otherwise you're paying for a lot of extra water!!

I would add manure and grass clippings as this will fill the raised beds up.
