Potato Days are great events for kitchen gardeners and allotmenteers to attend. There are a large number of different potato varieties available including heritage varieties and most potato days offer individual seed potatoes for sale which is ideal if you are growing in containers or space is limited.

Lesley I'm totally new to seed swapping and looking to attend the NOGS day. If I take some seed for swapping, how much seed is it normal to swap? Do we put x number in an envelope or somesuch or is there a protocol to be followed?

Hi DawnK, you need to put the seeds for swapping into envelopes and be sure to write on the envelopes what type of seeds they are along with the date. If you know what variety the seeds are then write that on the envelope aswell and you can also add a bit of info such as 'Really tasty medium sized red tomato, grows as a bush / determinate.' As to how many seeds to put into an envelope - well, I would put in the number of seeds that I would want to grow myself (what a dreadful answer!!). If it was me, I think that 6 courgette seeds, 15 or 20 tomato seeds and 25 runner bean seeds should be enough per envelope.

If you do go to the NOGS day please let us all know what the day was like.
