Default newbie :)

hey there, i am Emily, new to here, and pretty new to the whole veg growing, urm... it's my birthday in 3 days, big 16 :O I think my parets are shocked that i got to this age to be fair

it has been my first year (since Feb) having my own veggie patch, only being young i have always wanted my own part of the garden,so my parents, very kindly and to a very high cost..(ooopss) built me a raised bed, and with our garden being quite big they built it 8 foot by 8 foot, with intensions of enlarging it if it went well, and if not it would be my mothers raised flower bed :P. i wanted one since i was little, but my onions have been appauling, where as everything else seems to be growing amazingly!!

i have no idea why, they havnt grown for about a month and have drooped, i did everything as the packet has told me to and am now at a loss as what to do, on a good note though our family had my potatos i have grown for tea, with the carrots i have grown. so if you have any ideas as to why they aren't growing i would like to know why
or just say hello =/ maybe
thanks, Emily

hello em, hope all is well. onions can be fickle and as they are shallow rooted and the hot dry weather could think they have made their mark and started to ripen. you did not say if you grew from seed or used setts. place a question in the forum and see what replies you get. glad to hear the spuds and carrots were good and hope the family enjoyed efforts as you never know it may spark them into growing veg. good luck and happy pottering.

Default hi

Hi Emily

great to hear you are taking an interest in gardening. I used to get upset when a plant died on me, I thought it was something I did wrong... that's not always the case. There's a saying...One of the rook, one for the crow, one to die and one to grow...not a bad average.....so the odd limp plant isn't so serious

Just a thought if the bed is 8x8, you night like to put a path down the middle so you don't compact the soil..

Good luck

Ian
