new to dirt

I started last year with a small garden patch. Didn't do very good over all. Planted again this year, and plants growing well. Today leaves missing off Kale and Squash. I have a chicken wire fence around the garden, and no sign of digging underneath. The fence is only 30 in. in hight, so is ther something that will jump that for lunch. anyone have an answer james

Do you think it could be the bird flying into your veggie patch and eating the leaves?

When you say the leaves are gone do you mean that they have been totally removed including the stalk or that part of the green leaf has been pinched?? Pigeons are a nuisance and they tear at the green leaves to eat them but they normally go for brassicas not squashes.
