Default Wanna be ...

Hi im a wanna be veggie grower i typed in vegtable forum in google and up you came. This is my first year and i think i left things a bit late , i made two large planters each three foot high , one is eight foot by two and a half foot , the other is four foot square.
I have them planted with potatoes , brocolli and lettuce all are coming along well , fingers crossed they stay that way !
I am also trying tomatoes in a grow bag they are very slow , carrots and chilie plants which are on a shelf in the shed beside the window but they are also slow , probably could do with a green house of sorts.
Also have strawberries growing out of a drain pipe i cut holes in , looks well and i have a few strawberries starting to appear thats if my wee lad doesnt spot them !!!
Looking forward to the forum cheers ross.

Hi there Ross!! Welcome to our forum!!

I think your chilli plants will grow much better on a windowsill inside the house. I can't see it being warm enough or light enough for the plants in the shed. Put the carrots outside - it's the best place for them!

I wouldn't worry about your lad picking the strawberries - the birds are the problem as they pinch them!! If you haven't already, throw a net over the plants then the devils can't pinch your ripe strawberries!

Default "Welcome"

Hi Ross,
"Welcome" To the "Best" place on the net for all things gardening.
Not that great with the questions myself, but agree with the above regarding your chilli plants, Max light req, + warmth = "Great Chillies".
The plants will show slower progression with the reduced light and unconstant temps.
I grow a couple of chilli plants myself, (far from perfect some times) but with every season that passes, i learn a little more
Good Luck with your seasons growings,,,cheers stupo

Default Not Me

Hi "All"
Not Me
I am no Expert, The "Boss Lady" has me muddled up with someone else.
True, i do grow the odd chilli plant, But to say i am Expert, is an overstatement.
It is my love of "Blistering Hot" fruits, that i started to dabble, and a few years on, still dabbling, still learning, and still "Burning"

I will admit, that the "Little" knowledge i have about chillies, was mostly gained from visiting a well known chilli site Name not supplied, as the "Boss Lady" might show me a "card" for advertising

My experience with growing these plants over the last few years, has taught me, that the worst "Pest" is usually Myself, "Impatience" being the ultimate downfall. (Always looking for an early start, to get the best of our limited season)
As for normal midges etc, i am lucky enough to have never really suffered more than the odd aphid attack here and there,,, but there are surely other people out there with their own "Horror Stories"
Cya all soon,,,, cheers stupo
