Default Hello

Hi all,

I'm Ian, a 73 years old cancer sufferer (bladder) in Leeds., though I am a Scot. Need to do something to occupy myself and have decided to potter around the garden, hoping to grow veggies in containers.

I currently have four bags of potatoes on the go and the foliage is amazing!

Our garden is all graveled and I simple cannot lift it all (or even in part) and start a veg garden, so containers would, I think, be ideal for me. Anyway, I'll give it a go. Any tips etc would be welcome, please, as I am pretty clueless when it come to gardening....

Hi Ian and welcome. I'm a relative newbie to veg growing myself. Due to having a small garden with shallow borders, am mainly container growing too.

Plants you might still be able to get hold of and plant at the moment might be peppers, courgettes and aubergines in large pots and things you could sow might be spring onions, radish, salad leaves and beetroot. I'm sure some other suggestions will come along soon

Hi Ian, welcome to our forum!! I am so sorry to hear that you are not at all well. Growing your own vegetables in containers will indeed keep you occupied. The suggestions for vegetables to grow from NewToThis are spot on! You could also sow some carrot seeds, spinach, in a couple of weeks pak choi and there is just enough time to sow main crop peas.
