As i child i loved nothing more than to go down to the allotment at the end of my grandma & grandads garden, picking up snails to keep as 'pets' in coffee jars, eating my grandads best tomatoes, peas and strawberrys as i walked past and visiting the chickens, ducks and goat. I'd help my gandad 'prick out' seeds always saving the smallest ones that he'd throw away to grow in my own little patch he made for me.
As i grew up and went to secondary school gardening was certainly not a popular pastime and i gave it up. Now 24 and with my own house & more importantly garden i think the time is right to return - perhaps i'll give the snail collecting a miss this time though! |

Thanks Lisa, how and what are you currently growing?
95% of my garden is concrete but i've managed to grow 2 tomatoe plants, carrotts, lettuce & strawberries in containers. I have one small area which isnt covered in concrete but you can only dig 2 or 3 inch without hitting rocks. The plan is to level it off then create 3 or 4 raised beds. |

I am growing tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines, sweetcorn, peas, lettuce and some root veg. Well I should say I am trying to grow these items. I like the idea of the raised beds, I also have an area (where the root veg is) that is really hard. Last year the veg grew but was tiny. Delicious tho. There was so many carrots that I buried some and only remembered about them in April and they were still good enough to eat.

Sounds like you've gota nice selection growing Lisa, hope it grows a little larger for you this year.
I've aquired 2 plastic frames approx 1mtr wide x 1.5mtr long in a nice shade of green. I'm hoping for some nice weather over the weekend so i can dig the ground, level it off then position the 2 frames. |

Hi s25ale. I can really relate to what you said about your Grandpa. It was more years than I care to remember that I "helped" mine in his garden when I was a boy. I think of him almost every time I'm in my own garden. Oh I have black krim too, amoung the 7 different varieties I've planted, and they are an heirloom tom that are 8-12 oz. From what I've read people rave about the taste so I hope it's true. Welcome and good gardening

They are a large variety, dark in colour - a sort of deep purple and look different when cut open. Hope they taste as good as they look! |
