Hello to every one While not exactly new to gardening I have had commitment problems over the last few years, take my weeds for example(someone please take them) chin high in places, I'am 5' 8''.
While not vegetitarians we all (wife and 3 children) enjoy our veg and have had several abortive attempts at growing our own over the years. I would like this time to be different, in all honesty that would be lasting more than 6 months. I have an area about 7x7m which I've started to remove the weeds from and intend to keep weeding and removing roots from every few days with a view of starting some overwintering crops in the autum. We already have some salad, peas and beans in the yard, and have had a couple of salads already. Look forward to talking with you all and hopefully contributing in time as I learn a few things. Hi David and welcome. Good luck with the garden. Yes, those weeds can be a real pain in the #$&@%, but try to do a little as often as you can. I use alot of mulch to help keep the weeds down, grass clippings, but if you use that you have to be sure no chemical has been sprayed on the grass because it can transfer into your garden plants and cause harm. The green clippings should only be spread about 1-11/2" because they will build up some heat that could harm plants. Good luck on the garden. Keep us posted. There are some very helpful folks here.

Hi, I'm the wife and it's my fault he's had commitment problems. Me and my ponies kept getting in the way! A new fence has sorted that one. It does mean we have tons for good compost though, all that dung, hay and straw.
Trying to make a good sized plot that will help keep us in veg most of the year. Inculding an asparagus bed. I look forward to picking brains for advice and sharing receipes as I also love cooking. |

Hi, Yes please. My name is Wendy. I would like to grow lots of veg, but I also want lots of flowers so I can pick them for the house. I filled 16 large pots this year with roses, gooseberrys, honey berrys and other basic bedding plants and they are begining to look lovely growing up the walls. The yard is not just concrete now but somewhere nice to sit out in, once the jobs are done. I also built a retaining wall from old brieze blocks approx 25' by 20" where we are growing my salad crops, peas, beans and spinnach. Next year I want the veg in the plot and this new bed down to flowers. Thankyou for making us welcome.

Yes I forgot about that fence, a tale of blood, sweat and pain.
Day one, Remove nails from D rail supplied by a friend who no longer need the fence, rusty nails previously used near livestock and stored on soil for 6 months. About half way through job stand on nail, not as painful as you would expect(honest) remove nail, take off shoe to inspect damage, lots of blood, send children for Wendy. Wendy arrives with coment along lines of "oh poor boy what have you YOU LOT IN THE CAR NOW" hospital, tetanus injection 2 days off work. Day three put up fence sweaty but quite quick. Moral of story if you have safty boots wear them. |
