Me and my fiancée got our new allotment on Sunday after waiting a year for it!
Our plot is at the Marlborough Road allotments in Liverpool which we have been assured is the only allotment site in the country with its own social club(?) As we are both in our early 20s I think we're doing wonders for the average age of the site! Our plot is a 3/4 plot as one end of it has shipping containers with the club's equipment in. It is 8meters wide by 20meters long. Luckily the ground has all been turned over fairly recently by a rotavator, as I believe the club were intending to use the plot for themselves. This is what the plot looked like on Sunday (Day One!) Allotment Day 1 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! I've just been down again today to start the hard work and have managed to clear a patch about 4feet by 10 feet. Unfortunately one of the containers was casting a shadow on my pic, but you get the gist! Allotment day 3 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! I hope to put more pics up as I get more done. Thanks for reading. PVC, we had our name down from Spring 2009. You want to just keep ringing Bill (his number is on the council website). He said to us that he waits for people on the waiting list to contact him, rather than contacting them...I think it's so he can see who is really keen! When we went on Sunday he had 2 plots for us to choose from, so as of Sunday there definitely was one more plot available!
I'm seeing Bill again this Sunday, as I need to sign the contract and give him my dosh, so I'd definitely say ring him before Sunday and you might be able to go down and see him. It's also great for me there becasue it's about a 60second walk from my from door to my plot! (I live on Glengariff Street) If you do go down on Sunday, my plot is just behind the clubhouse, behind the 2 containers...come and see if I'm there and say hi! Andy |

Hi PVC, take Andy's advice and keep phoning the secretary, Bill. It really does work.

Hi Andy
Good luck with all the hard work - it will be so worthwhile. I have a small garden but it is so full of vegetables. The beans are delicious, although I have been worried about 'Rusty Leaves'. Waiting for the toms to go red, the greenhouse is full of cucumbers and toms. Cheers from HappyBean |
