Cool New to here and my allotment

Hi all,

Just got my first allotment and to my relief it has been looked after really well, on having a quick stomp around it at the weekend, I note that there were 3 gooseberry bushes, 4 bushes which could be redcurrents/black currents, a few slug eaton cabbages and a fine covering of weeds..and the biggest compost heap in the corner which is untamed and unleased..

Would love some advice on the following:

1. should I make a bonfire and get rid of the majority of the heap, if so do you think it would best to get one of those bins?

2. has anyone got a simple plan on setting on how work out where to put my vegetables the fruit bushes are staying, and they are plonk in the middle, thinking about segmenting in a raised bed sort of way (due to the bed collapsing thought I would used the would to do this)

So I look forward to hearing from some of you.
