recap is on a distinguished road
Default Hi folks

Just a little about me. Recently moved in to a new home with a largish garden. It has three aspects, unfortunatley the side of the house used to have several trees in so planting veg would be hard, so I will build some raised beds. The gardens are all overgrown so a lot of groundwork first. Found that around the back of the house there are; raspberries, strawberries, blackcurrants and brambles. To add to this I have purchased goosberries.

That's me for the moment.

Nice to be here.

Hi Lesley,

Thanks for the welcome.

It's been a long time since I grew veg, so I think I may be asking a lot of questions. I used to have an allotment some 25 years ago but the council in their wizdom decided to close them down.

Welcome! Sounds like your garden will keep you fit, the first thing I would do is cut the fruit bushes back even if it means being harsh with them. I have seen this provide good results in unloved gardens before. If are just left to their own devices they will become hard to manage and not provide as good a crop as you would like. Good luck on having a garden with such a wide spread of fruit in it. What you do not use yourself you could easily sell on to others as fruit is now very expensive to buy
Anyhow welcome once again, and post away!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

golden 14, where I am living at the moment, there is a culture of 'I have some raspberries do you want some for some of your rhubarb' and the deal is done. People here are very friendly and only too happy to share/swap/barter the fruits of their labours.
