http://ekeil.notlong.com 5 June 2008 Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata)

The Colorado Potato Beetle made its appearance today. Only one was detected. I picked it off the plant, which is my usual method of control, since my potato patch is small.

http://urish.notlong.com/ & June 2008 More Colorado Potato Beetles about eight on the potatoes. The type of insect with the three strips may not be a Colorado Potato Beetle. I have never seen this one previously.

It is a severe pest in NA. There is not a potato grower without this pest. In the "old days" Paris Green was utilized for control. Imagine!

I expect the bug every year, and never am I disappointed, and control by picking, but my patch is small.

In the UK the pest must be reported if it appears.

One year my small potato patch was destroyed in a matter of days by this pest, whilst away for about a week.

I too remember wanted pics & posters from my childhood.
Then to my utter joy one day I found one in out garden shed. It must have crawled out of a sack of spuds (shed was by kitchen door) I popped it in a mathc box took it to the police station & fullt expected to recieve a fat reward. They told me to go home
