Unhappy Pear disease

Hi there.
I am an amateur gardener! At the end of last year, I planted a Conference Pear, the compact form, which I bought from a reliable supplier.
It has been growing well but now the leaves are dideased and I don't know what to do .
The front of the leaf gets (very bright) orange, and gets eaten. At the back of the leaf, you see this horrible and weird kind growth, from which there are usually 3 or 4 pointy bits sticking out - grey/brownish.
Help! any ideas? I started pulling out infected leaves - estimate that about a fifth of the tree has it...

Hi Eunice and welcome to our forum!!

It appears to be Pear Rust that is affecting your pear tree. It's an airborne disease and according to the RHS fungicides for pear scab and powdery mildew will give some control.

Thank you!!!

Have been looking at products for it, but they recommend to spray it in February.
Do you think it might be better to apply now, or it might damage the tree???
I removed all the leaves but don't know if the fungus lives on the buds...

ps I really have a lot to learn!

Eunice I would follow the recommended treatment time on the products. The timing is probably to do with the life cycle of the spores.
