Default Help Please! Yellow Leaves on vegetables!

Hi everyone!

A bit sad this evening - seems some of my plants have a 1-way ticket to "Veggie Heaven"...

It's been 5 days since I moved them to the Greenhouse in the garden - and most of them have yellow leaves - some most leaves - others are just starting to look yellow.

Tomatoes are most affected (pictures below) - and cucumber leave are just beggining to be affected - peppers seem to be fine, for now... :-(

I have included pictures:

Help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Amoros, it could be magnesium deficiency but affected leaves are usually yellower than in your photo's or are you over watering? If it is magnesium deficiency you just need to water or spray the plants with epsom salts diluted with water and the results are fairly quick. You should be able to buy epsom salts from the garden centre and the dilution will be on the pack.

I have several small tomato plants in my windowsill with yellow leaves like that. I thought it was because of too much heat?
But then again, they have been watered very well all the time. What is the appropriate amount of water?

Yes Thomas it could be leaf scorching. With magnesium deficiency the leaves usually turn yellow while the veins remain green.

With young tomato plants I aim to keep the compost damp but not too wet. Once the plants are in their containers they get a good watering each day as irregular watering can cause the fruits to split and too little water affects the fruits growth.

Thanks Lesley!

From my net research I did think it may be Magnesium deficiency - those leaves in the photo are in the earlier stages - I do have other ones which are completely yellow, shrivelled and undoubtedly dead.

Have already removed all dead leaves so as not to further damage the plant.

Will get some Epsom Salts 2mrw & spray it on - wonder if Homebase will sell them.

By the way, more out of curiosity...

Is it possible they were affected by this deficiency because I delayed their transfer into the Greenhouse soil???

They had "outgrown" their small plastic pots, probably had drained the soil in the small pots of all its nutrients, so by the time I moved them they were already on the way to "Heaven".

Though I would have hoped the soil I have in the Greenhouse would have rejuvenated them - it must really lack the required nutrients itself.

Will let you know of the progress, fingers crossed it will work.

:-)

You should be able to get Epsom Salts from your local chemists.
