Angry beetroot problem

Morning all
I noticed this morning that my beetroot has vanished!!. On closer inspection all I have left is stalks. When they were under the cloches I had no problems but now I just have no beetroot. Next to the beetroot are radish, spring onion and carrots all of which have not been touched. The sparrows are in the hedge next to the bed, have they a liking for beetroot or could it be ants as I have seen an increase in this little buggers lately.
Thanks for any help Keith.

you don't say if they were covered or not. I take it they aren't. to me it sounds like slugs as birds usually shred and leave bits behind. can only sugest keep an eye out and look for slime trails. bird droppings etc. good luck.

Default beetroot problem

When they were covered I had no problem but as soon as I uncovered them the problem started, first to go were the small seedlings then they moved onto the older ones now I have a whole line of stalks!. I take it these will now come to nothing without the leaves
