Default Please Help!

Hi All

Everything was going really well in our new plot until about 4 days ago,we had 2 days of VERY HEAVY rain, we therefore didnt water the plot as it did look sodden, then the sun shone strong for 2 days (our plot does have a large portion of shade however,I am wondering if this is the problem?). All the bases of on the lettuces, peas and the onions have just gone yellow and totally limp. The onions were really standing upright ,same as the leeks but now they are virtually non existent as in non salvagable, the peas look like they could be revived, but 2 or 3 plants are beyond that, the lettuces are lost I feel...what has happened...my Mum says we have slugs 'under ground'?? Eh.???

We are gutted every thing was shooting up and blooming, lovely flowers on our potato plants, strong beautifully coloured leaves on our betroot plants, leeks standing proud, tomatoes and strawberries looking beautiful, the carrots just looking so glorious and healthy with the bright green leaves bushy and thick, then in a mater of days its like its all starting to go down hill. we spent so muhc money preparing the soil, manure, clay treatments....we are at a loss??

hi
how long after the rain, did the soil remain 'sodden'?
i take it from your post that you are on clay! did you add something to help it drain?

As Bomber is suggesting, it sounds like a waterlogging problem. Is the soil s;ow to drain?

TBH..no I havne't added anything to help it drain...what would the suggestions be...the soil looks parched on the top, but yes as you dig deeper it is very moist.

hi
digging in plenty of grit should help it drain,
however if your on a thick layer of clay, a raised bed may be the answer.
