Question What could be eating my potato foliage?

My potatoes are nearly at flowering stage, but last night I noticed something very worrying. 2 of the plants at the back of the plot have been eaten almost to the ground... only a few stalks left. I cant see anything on the plants or the plants next to these 2. Could it be slugs? Or should i worry about colorado beetle? I'm in Northern Ireland and as far as i know it is not in this country.
There have been 3 weeks of no rain here... slugs seem to have disappeared from the rest of the garden.... had a problem a few weeks ago with brussel sprouts and broccoli but they have recovered very well.
Cheers

Weeks ago one of my potato plants was cut down by the root. Pretty sure it was a slug. Same thing happened to one of my tomato plants last year. But I'm beginning to believe that we have a slow slug year around here, but only time will tell. Fingers crossed

My potatoes have come back to life following a few rain showers over the last few days and Ive used some organic slug pellets around them and have no more problems. Phew!
