Default flying bugs around my houseplants

I have noticed a lot of tiny little black gnat looking bugs flying around my houseplants lately. I think they are in the soil. Any idea where they might have come from? And how do I get rid of them?

They are sciarid flies, and as you say, they are in the compost. Get an insecticide suitable for use on houseplants. Though these flies don`t harm the plants.
