Exclamation Tiny Black Flies Around Tom Stems & Cuke Help Pls

Hi all,

Thanks so much for al your help and advice so far - it really is appreciated.

I have another question...

all of a sudden I have tiny black flies around the stems of my tomato plants in the greenhouse (in growbags.) So far I have just sprayed water on them in the evening but they are still there.

Can anyone help with what they are? If they need to gotton rid of? and if so, how? (non-chemically if poss.)

I also have something slimey that is trying its utmost to ruin my cucumber plants (also in growbags in greenhouse.) I noticed that a couple of the tiny cucumbers growing (femspot) have gone yellow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this from the snail or slug thats feasting on them?? There are also patches on another cucumber and one plant has none growing now!!

Thanks in advance for your kind help and advise.

Alexis

The flies are most probably fruit flies. A pest that I just ignore in my GH, never had any problems with them. Sounds like you have slug/snail damage on your plants. No matter how hard I try, I always get a rogue slug in my GH that likes a nibble. Luckily, I haven't had too much trouble.
My cuc has one or two small yellow cucs that never form, quite normal I think. I just remove them.
The big cuc plants growing in polytunnels at work have suffered slug damage, patches nibbled out of the skin. It's mostly cosmetic and the cucs still sell in the farmshop.

Thanks so much Tigerella - just made me smile to read that all is ok

I will snip the yellow cucumbers off and now i know the flies are ok, i will perhaps just try some tape for them to be caught on. As for the snail/slug, I can't find the little begger - I think he hides and comes out when I'm not in there to have a feast! Maybe I could try a beer trap - do I just put some near the growbag in a small dish?

Thanks again

Hee
A beer trap should be fine, but keep it fresh as I'm not sure if it will go off sooner in a warm GH.
I always seem to get froglets in my GH, I'm hoping they will eat my pesky slugs
