Hi Andrew, a homemade beer trap is dead easy. Cut a plastic drinks bottle in half and using the lower half cut out sections around the top so that it looks like the castellations or turrets on the top of a castle. These cut outs are where the slugs slide in. Sink the half bottle into the ground so that the cut out turrets are just above the soil level, then friendly insects don't fall in by mistake, pour in the beer and place a saucer on the top which stops other insects dropping in and also keeps the rain off. That's it - done! The slugs on my allotment enjoyed Tesco's value lager!!

you lot are just cruel

put egg shells round your treasured plants of choice. slugs don't like the sharp surface but are not killed by it

Seems an awful lot of messing about.....and a waste of beer!

Scatter a few pellets......quick, cheap, 100% effective and VERY satisfying.

they are slowly poisoned to death plus i like to drink my beer myself at least the secateurs are fast i suppose.

i gave up a long time ago, you can kill them but more will arrive

just accept they will munch something and try to direct them towards plants you don't care for.
