Default What is slicing off ends of tomato leaves?

Hi, I am new to this forum, and being new to the world of gardening, was hoping I could get help with some problems. The first being.....I have noticed that something is neatly slicing through the leaves on my tomato plants in my greenhouse. I have noticed about 2 or 3 leaves daily have their last bit hanging off, being cleanly cut through the centre, as in the stalk of the leaf, if that is the correct term, which i'm sure isn't !! So, please can anyone advise. I have looked but can't find the culprit. Hoping someone can help! Mark.

Good evening Mark and welcome to the site. Any chance of a pic or two of the damage?

Default photo's of damage to leaf

Hello, and thank you David for your reply. just been out and taken these photos. As I said, it seems to happen to about 2 or 3 leaves daily. I am hoping that the plants won't suffer, but i'd love to know what is happening, as i'm eager to learn. This is the second year of having a greenhouse for me and I don't recall this happening last year .

Hope these help. Thank you again for taking the time and trouble to reply, Mark.

I think it`s keel slugs. These are small (10c, lomg ), soil dwelling slugs. They come out at night, do the damage, then get back into the soil before you wake up. I`d treat the plants and soil with a liquid slug killer.

I think Growing Success do an organic slugbait. It should be available at your local garden centre.

Copper tape should keep slugs out (so i believe) but if theyre in the soil already, thats useless to you, maybe good for future plantings tho

Ive tried copper tape before and it really did the trickl. Before this i was using a sprinkling of pellets but the cat kept eating them!
