Default Using pea/bean netting

On some of the other threads I see that people are covering some plants, like Strawberries, with pea/bean netting to prevent birds taking their share!

Is it worthwhile covering everything as a preventative measure or is just really fruit?

I picked a handful of Radish this morning and one looked like something had taken a bite right of the top... just like when we bit into the side of an apple.

Would be great to hear your views x

Hi Hollie, pea and bean netting has too large squares on the netting. You need to take a look in the garden centre and you will see green garden netting with smaller squares that butterflies can't get through to lay eggs on your brassicas and birds can't pinch strawberries or eat brassicas through. I always cover brassicas and strawberry plants.

Oh that's lovey. I have not planted any brassicas so it would just be the Strawberries.

I will get some this weekend, unless, anyone wants to swap some for maybe two or three little signs for the veg patch... you pick what it says!?

I visited my local Garden Centre this weekend. It's a small place but so nice as it's all family run and there is a school near by for children with learning difficulties who help plant up every year! They had the green netting by the metre, which was great for me as I just needed a little for the Strawbs! They're all wrapped up now, hopefully safe from the birds!
