Earwigs?
Hi all,
this is my first post, I'm growing vegetables for the first time. We only have a small garden and are growing in containers. I have some chili plants and aubergines in a mini greenhouse/cold frame type thing, the leaves are being eaten by something, big holes with rough edges and munch marks in the aubergine leaves and the chili leaves are really being eaten so that on some of them just the veins are left! These plant are quite strong and have lots of new growth so I was hoping they would out grow any infestation and I thought it was slugs/snails at first as I've seen the tell tail slimey trails and caught a few of the blighters too.
But last night I went on my usual slug/snail hunt after dusk and found a few of these brown bugs. they are about 2-3 cms long and have a sort of split tail. I found about 4 on the chili plant leaves (6 plants) and then spotted one on my courgette which isn't in the greenhouse/cold frame and then another on my patio door frame. The closest thing I've found on internet is earwigs, but all the pictures show the tail like a pair of pincers, whereas these seem to have a sqaure-ish rear end which tails off into two points as if pointing at 3 and 6 o'clock. I'll try and get pictures tomorrow if it's light enough, but wondered if anyone knew whether it is earwigs or something else and what I can do about it. The aubergine seems to be outgrowing them but they are distroying my chilis
Please help
Nicola
