Default some beasties to I D

IMG_0271.jpg

this one, you can see how small he is, the were loads of them and the demolished every radish i had growing, im afraid i moved them all into pot and put them in a prime position to become bird food . i am a lover of nature (it goes with my job) but they should have at least shared the radishes with me

this one was on a cabbage which was netted grrrrr

the cabbage next to it was fine but this one all the leaves went wrinkley and it looked terrible. ive moved it out from the netting and left it with the cabbage its wrecked. No point me removing it now and i still have another cabbage to harvest. i assume cabbage white but i dunno

cheers

tim

Hi Tim,
Just had a quick look in my book, and from your picture, i would say you are right with your "Cabbage White" conclusion.
They show a picture in my book that looks the same as your "critter" and it quotes them as "Velvety".
You are quoted as saying, "I am a lover of nature, it goes with the job"
Do you mind me asking, what do you do????
cheers stupo.

Hiya Tim
I pulled 22 of those little ones off my broccoli today. I couldn't kill them either so I put them in our garden waste bin!!

sorry for my slow response, yeah stupo it goes with the job as im a countryside ranger, manageing and conserving some of the important sites within the county, i suppose you could do the job without loving nature but i think it makes the job more satisfying with my approach

thanks for the cabbage white id, im guessing the little green ones could be anything, just thought with them only being on my radishes and leaving everything else it may help..

The caterpillar on your cabbage is the larvae of the Cabbage Moth, now the Cabbage White butterfly is something different again. (although the aim in life for all is to grow eating your food) In fact there are two cabbage white butterflys, the Large White and the Small White.. Large White larvae, small white larvae and the cabbage moth larvae are all on this link. http://www.hdc.org.uk/herbs/page.asp?id=8
