Default Vampire Caterpillars????

My chilli leaves look like they are made of lace, I've had curled up caterpillars in my blueberries and my strawberries and they all look the same, green with neon bright green innards.

I had no idea what was decimating my chillis until someone mentioned the possibility of caterpillars to another poster. I can find nothing in the day but after a killing spree of about 20 on day one, I now average only one a night - slugs have again moved into number 1 pest spot

My question is...where are they in the day? I only seem to spot them at night with a torch and it would make it much easier if I could find the beggars in the day.

Any ideas?

I'm guessing that, like slugs, they probably hide in the soil durng the day and come out to feed at night -but thats just a guess
