Default Tomatos, Brown yellow spots on fruit.

Hi there,

I am a new member here - I'm seeing you get a lot of that at this time of the year with questions about tomatoes! Here is mine.

I have been growing two varieties, one heirloom, one not. They seem to be sick and from what we can tell it might be tomato mosiac and potato virus x - but we know nothing and research has turned out to be quite difficult as there don't seem to be too many good photos on the diagnostic sites.

I have included images.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.

Picture 1 appears to be blossom end rot. Prevention:Never let the soil or compost dry out especially when fruit is swelling.
Other pictures look like Leaf Roll. The rolling of older leaves is usually due to excess deleafing or a wide variation between day and night temperatures. Provided that pests and deseases are absent there is no need to take any action. The inward curling of young leaves is a good sign if they are dark green. Hope this helps.

Well that would be much better news than we had been expecting - thank you for your reply.

are the plants being grown indoors? if so, more ventilation is needed during the 'day' to keep the temp difference to a minimum, a very cheap option is to have the lights on during the night And i agree with bantiekeeper the first pic looks like blossom end rot.

Thank you airconednightmare - unfortunately they are in a communal staircase with a glass roof. There is not the possibility to leave the light on during the night as said light is the sun, and the windows do not open!

Hopefully during the next few weeks this will rectify itself as the present humid weather begins to pass.
